Mid Term State of the Durban Economy 2021
Both the IMF and World Bank have revised South Africa’s growth rates down and Durban at a forecast of 2,7% has not been spared from downward revisions. While positive growth is welcomed, 8,5% of GDP growth is required to return the City to prepandemic levels. Key sectors of the economy which are forecasted to grow fastest include manufacturing, trade and professional business services. Sectors forecasted to struggle include electricity and construction. These are two critical and enabling sectors, and the attached presentation provides an overview of the City's approach to addressing the forecasted economic stagnation. The focus is specifically investment, construction and infrastructure development.
