This presentation covers key opportunities and challenges faced by eThekwini's economy in 2022.

Challenges and risks include stifling inflationary pressures on consumers, the risk of unrest, unemployment and flooding due to climate change. Opportunities include the growth of the global business services sector, the recovery of the tourism sector, and the digital economy, and hydrogen energy development.

The presentation ultimately highlights the need for the implementation of game changing strategies and policies order to address the structural economic challenges faced by the City. These are summarised in the Sakha iTheku/ Shape Durban (otherwise known as the Economic Development Strategy) document.
