2022Q1 QLFS Increased Unemployment in Durban
This datastory looks at the progress in Durban's labour market according to StatsSA's Q1 2022 Labour Force Sirvey results, and in partcular, the impact of the April 2022 flooding on jobs in the City. Despite the improvement in employment, unemployment continues to increase and therefore a major catch-up is still required. The flooding that occurred in Durban had a significant impact on the sectors driving its employment creation meaning that employment, despite its growth, was not enough to create sufficient opportunities for entrants into the labour market.
